Growing up & hometown
Lauren was born and raised in a small town northeast of Cleveland, Ohio. She didn’t move until college when she attended Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, where she met her husband. Aside from two years in Detroit right after college, she has lived in Grand Rapids ever since.
First jobs in high school/college
Lauren was 15 when she held her first summer job as a machine operator at her dad’s manufacturing company. That was not the ideal job for her, so the next summer she worked at an amusement park selling ride photos. She then worked at Subway as a sandwich artist for the rest of high school and into college during summer breaks and holidays.
Hobbies
She has played golf since middle school and has kept playing after college because it’s a great way to network.
Something colleagues may not know (yet)
A planner at heart, and a self-proclaimed logistics nerd, Lauren loves researching a place, figuring out the timing, deciding when to arrive, and making a game plan to fit in as much as possible. Basically, she likes to know the plan – even when the plan is supposed to be spontaneous.
Organizations she’s supporting
Lauren is the Membership Coordinator for Moms of Grand Rapids, a non-profit organization for women raising kids in West Michigan. In her role, she welcomes new members, manages membership renewals, and helps plan events. She was recently elected to become the Co-Lead of the organization.
She’s also the Vice President of the Lansing Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). Chapters are run by volunteers and offer education and networking for fraud examiners and others interested in fraud prevention. As Vice President, she helps plan events and supports the chapter president and other board members.
Favorite quote to live by
“Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.” – Ida Scott Taylor
What inspired her to pursue a career in forensic accounting
Lauren was first introduced to a forensic accounting course in graduate school. After that, she often thought about a career in this field but didn’t know how to pursue it. In 2020, while working in Internal Audit during COVID, Lauren decided to take the CFE exam. She found out she had passed the last section the day she went into labor with her first child!
Favorite aspect of working with the Morones Analytics team
The people and the opportunity to build intentional relationships. Lauren appreciates being part of a team where people genuinely care about one another, communicate honestly, and build meaningful relationships.
