Growing up & family

Rudra is from Trichy, a small town at the heart of India’s southernmost state. He has two sisters, one older and one younger. His older sister lives in Seattle while his younger sister and mom live in India. Rudra feels that one of the best parts about growing up in India was celebrating Diwali together. Family and friends would gather to celebrate the holiday with good food and plenty of fireworks. Something as simple as having tea together with family is one of his favorite things, and he misses that. But his mom recently arrived in the U.S. and Rudra is looking forward to having some fun exploring the country with her.

Hobbies

Rudra loves playing (and watching) cricket. And this year he started playing for a second-division team here in Portland. It’s been a fun way to stay busy on weekends. Beyond that, he’s a big fan of long road trips.

A favorite book or show

He’s currently reading Poor Charlie’s Almanack. He loves Charlie Munger’s wit and practical advice on life and money. The show he enjoys watching repeatedly is BBC’s Sherlock Holmes.

What inspired him to pursue a career in financial services

During the Covid pandemic, he had time to read up on personal finance. That’s when he realized he had a natural affinity for numbers. That discovery planted the seed for pursuing a master’s in fintech and eventually led him into this space in forensic accounting.

Moving to the United States

When Rudra came to the U.S. for grad school in Texas, the transition was surprisingly smooth because the weather and food felt so familiar. Moving to the Pacific Northwest, though, has been a completely different experience for him. He sees it as stunning in every direction with so much to explore.

Impact he hopes to make for clients & community

The services industry as we know it is changing. Rudra wants to help make tools more accessible and transparent for people who have historically been underserved. AI has made (and will continue to make) the services accessible to a wider population because the tools have made the services more affordable. And because Morones Analytics is tech-forward, Rudra believes we are able to serve our clients better.

Prescription for life

He likes a lot of Charlie Munger’s quotes and mental models, one of which is the rule of “inversion,” which plainly states: instead of finding a way to succeed, find the ways you could fail, and avoid those at all costs. These are simple philosophies he believes are very powerful and practical.

Favorite aspect of working with the Morones Analytics team

The freedom to innovate. He’s trusted to build the tools, and that autonomy has helped him learn faster.
