As we celebrate our firm’s 20th anniversary in 2022, we celebrate each of our team members. These monthly profiles are a way to learn about each of our financially-savvy forensic sharpshooters outside the office.

After growing up in Pendleton, OR (home of the famous annual Round-Up rodeo) and working for his family business through his teens, Paul left his hometown to pursue a finance degree from the University of Portland. That’s where he met his wife Joni, also an Oregon native. They have two daughters (age 10 and 13) and adopted their dog Daphne during the pandemic.

Paul has been with Morones Analytics for more than 10 years, and has performed 200+ business appraisals for litigation, gift and estate tax planning, marital dissolution, business transactions, reorganizations and succession planning.

His career started at publishing firm Business Valuation Resources, LLC (BVR) where he spent 10 years in financial research working with Shannon Pratt, the guru of business valuation. Paul managed several private company transaction databases, including Pratt’s Stats® and served as the Managing Editor for a quarterly economic publication used in appraisal reports and books contributing to the body of knowledge in the business valuation profession.

First job in high school/college: Paul’s father owned an insulation company in Pendleton, OR where he worked every summer and winter break until he was a junior in college. He got an internship during college with Stockamp & Associates, a healthcare consulting firm, working with the finance department and looking through code for the Y2K switch.

Hobbies: Aside from playing golf and going wine tasting, Paul loves heading out to the Oregon coast for salmon fishing, clamming and crabbing. In the summer and fall, you might find him in Astoria, Gearhart, Manzanita or Florence (where he spent time at his family’s vacation home each year growing up).  He also is a big Oregon Ducks fan and has had football season tickets for nearly twenty years.  Some of his fondest memories are going to the 1995 Rose Bowl and 2011 National Championship game with this grandfather and father.

Favorite activities as a family: They love to travel and be active in the outdoors, including paddleboarding or just getting on the water in Bend or Hood River.

Something most people don’t know: Paul brews his own beer, even growing his own hops every summer. He has been making a few batches each year with friends for the last 10 years.

Favorite book and show: Into Thin Air is his favorite book and Breaking Bad is his all-time favorite show on Netflix.

Fun fact: Paul and three of his closest friends have been going on an Oregon Ducks football road trip every year since 2011 with the goal of visiting every Pac-12 stadium. Covid-19 stopped the tradition the past two years, but they only have two more stadiums to cross off the list, Arizona (which is this year’s destination) and Utah.

Favorite thing about working with the Morones Analytics team?

“Everyone brings a unique talent and skillset, and it brings out the best in my work performance.  They are all also truly nice and caring people to work with.” — Paul Heidt
